It is a common problem for dogs to have severe brownish/red stains below the inside corner of each eye, at times extending to the mouth area and the feet by licking. Tear staining is a problem also found in cats, usually among the Persians.

There are several possible reasons for excessive tearing, but none directly responsible for the stains. Staining is a byproduct created by the moisture from the increased tears flowing through the hair below the eyes. The constantly wet facial hair is the breeding ground for bacteria. The tear ducts become filled with bacteria that react to the incoming light and release a brownish/red secretion into the tears.

Pets’ Spark™ works to weaken the bacteria until completely eliminated and incapable from redeveloping without interfering with the natural production of tears.  Pets’ Spark™ does not remove pre-existing stains nor is it a quick temporary fix to the problem. It is a proven product that will work on the underlying cause to gradually stop the production of gooey discharge and tearstains.

Because each dog and cat is different, results may be seen after 15 days, while others may take up to 35 days or more.

Pets’ Spark™ is a powder and can be added to your regular dog or cat food however, by adding Pets’ Spark™ to a snack; such as a small portion of Nutri-Cal, cottage cheese, cooked ground meat, or a favorite treat, you will ensure that your pet gets their entire daily dose.

You can also mix Pets’ Spark™ with water and insert into your dog and/or cat’s mouth using a medicine dropper. (If this is the method of choice, you must add the water to the Pets’ Spark™ powder instead of pouring the powder into water.)

A few dogs and cats have sensitive stomachs. As a result of a change in their food, although unusual, they may experience loose stools, constipation, and/or vomiting. To avoid such reactions, you should introduce just a pinch of Pets’ Spark™ powder to your pet food/snack and then gradually increase  the  amount  during the first week (7 days) until you reach the recommended daily dose (per the dosage calculator below) to allow your pet’s metabolism to adjust to the change.

You should then keep the full recommended dose for 60 days (~ 8 weeks). Then, for the following 2 weeks cut daily dose in half. If no signs of stains or discharge, continue with a half dose every other day for another 2 weeks. Afterwards, if still no signs of discharge or stains, you should gradually decrease the dose amount for the next few days until zero.

It is also recommended that you carefully trim the stained areas around the eyes until the tearing turns to clear. For dogs or cats with a short coat, a good quality, temporary topical eye cleanser can be used.

Although uncommon, if stains or goo reappear during the dosing period, it is a sign that bacteria is still present suggesting the need for a more aggressive approach. Immediately re-start for 1 month the everyday regime doubling the original daily dose. Then revert back to the standard dosing directions.

Failure to the follow the above instructions most likely will result in discharge and/or stains to return. Pets’ Spark™ is only to be used as outlined and should not be used indefinitely

They can be eliminated by recommencing the regime and doubling the original daily dose for one (1) month. Revert back to standard dosing instructions after thirty (30) days.
